Windows media player won't start

Hi
Since I reinstalled my WinXP Profesional version, when I
try to start the midia player i get this message:
"Windows Media Player has encountered a problem and needs
to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

then this is the error signature:
"AppName: wmplayer.exe AppVer: 8.0.0.4477 ModName:
msvcrt.dll
ModVer: 7.0.2600.0 Offset: 00034748 "

I will be greatfull if you can help

What version of media player do you have. There is a new one recently
released - see if it gets listed when you scan on windows update - if so
update - that may fix it.
