Windows Media Player to view website news clips/videos

I have Windows XP; when I go to a news website and click to view news video
clips, everything opens with site logo and gets ready and loads. The news
clip does not come up but immediately reads at the top left The End.... it is
as though the video news clip has played and ended, without seeing anything.
I have tried closing my Windows Firewall. For awhile in the past I disabled
my Norton Antivirus and Internet Security features and it worked. I have
since changed virus protection and I don't think that is the problem. I have
checked to enable cookies, which I think is okay. I have a friend with WXP
with the same problem, although he still has the Norton on his PC. Do you
have any suggestions? I also checked their Troubleshooting page to no avail.
thanks... reach me at

Online during a download and/or streaming media, you
disabled your firewall and anti-virus? Why??????

The obvious reason you were unable to view the content
would be that it was not uploaded correctly or was of a
propriatary format not supported by your media player!

Or If your "Internet security" software had alerted you to
a possible problem with the online content you should have
left the site - NOT disabled your firewall/AV.
