Windows Media Player on Win 2000 Pro

I'm trying to play an MPEG video from a cd but Windows
Media player 9 tells me that its not in the right format.
It plays on Windows XP. The error says that the file may
be formatted with an unsupported codec. I have run all the
updates and still get the same error.

Thanks in advance...

Hi Don:

Sounds like we have a similar issue....sort of.

I am getting the same error, with these details.

I created am MP3 on a WIndows 2K Pro workstation, and I
get the same error message when attempting to play this
file on any other version of Windows, specifically Win 98
SE and WMP Ver. 9.x or XP w/WMP ver. 8.x of course it
plays fine in Windows 2K Pro.

Both players are updates to their versions respectively.
In viewing the details, I have this error message: Error
ID = 0xC00D119A, Remedy ID = 0x00000000. As you can
imaging, when searching the MS KB, I get the
classic, "Microsoft KB has no solutions for this error at
this time"... it's "special" isn't it?

Please let me know if you resolve this issue, and maybe
it'll point me in the right direction also.

Thanks,

CHuck

I thought that error code was for video files only? What's the error text?

Chuck and Don,

I'm having a similar problem myself. I produce video on an
Avid, compress it to a suitable size .asf file for email
purposes through MediaCleaner EZ, then email it to my boss
and he likewise forwards it onto clients. My computer
(running on Windows 2000 Professional) has Media Player 7
and plays back the video/audio just fine. My boss,
(running Windows 2000 Professional) has Media Player 9 and
the video/audio will hang after about 3 seconds or so and
give an error code of "0xC00D1199"

I did some investigating on on Google. Did a search using
the key words "ASF, Media Player 9" and the first link
that came up was the following

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=816044

from Microsoft Product Support Services.

WMP9 is buggy - and we're suppose to wait till they fix it.
At least that's all I've figured out so far.
I know this doesn't help much - but at least is solves
a bit more of the mystery.
