Windows Media player not opening

I'm having a problem with media player under WXP
home...when I double click a video file media player will
not open...even if I scroll through programs, media
player will not open.

Any ideas/thoughts?

Running Windows XP Home on Compaq Athlon 1400+ laptop,
256Mb video.

hav yuo tryed to reinstall it in 9 series may be this fixes your problem and you hav de lates version of media player
