I just got a new Dell Dimension with XP/Home yesterday. Can someone
tell me which files to move from the old pc so that all the songs we
had in the old MP will be in the new one? I moved lots of stuff over
but apparently not the MP files. Thanks! Steve Ignots

There will be a folder (or several) where your mp3's are located. Assuming,
of course, that your songs are in that format. Do a Search for "*.mp3"
(without the quotes)....and you will find them....asterisk, period, mp3.

You can then burn them as Data (not mp3's) to a CD and copy them to your new
computer. That is how I handled it way back. You should ALWAYS back up
your songs in "data format" from time to time.

Best....Heather

"Data format"? An .mp3 file *is* a kind of data file. It's no different from
a .doc file or an .xls file except that you use media player (or something
similar) to access it instead of Word or Excel.

Yep....I just wanted to point out to him that you can back them up as
data...there are some people that don't realize that.

Merry Christmas.....Heather

Unfortunately the old pc has no way of burning a CD. I moved my other
files by connecting the old hard drive to the new pc. If I do a search
on the old pc for mp3 files and find the folder(s) where they are kept
drag them all into the new MP10 folder?? Steve

signots,
Here is a website with the most common media file extensions, so you can search your old hard drive for:

Sounds good to me. I just burned them to a CD and downloaded them onto the
new computer, but I can't see why you can't move them the same as you moved
the other files and folders. I now have a router and have moved programs
over from the old computer to this new XP one.

Cheers....Heather
