Windows Media Player 11 for MS-XP SP2

Advice needed.
Am seeking to free-up some memory space on my laptop. On scrolling down the
Control Panel list of installed programs have found the following 2 listings:
<Windows Media Format 11 Runtime> occupying 25.48 MB
<Windows Media Player 11> also occupying 25.48 MB

Question's: Can I uninstall the former without harming the latter? Or are
both programs necessary for the operation of WMP?

If you are not planning to use the Player you can delete it, but the Runtime
will be needed for many other formats, not just WMP. See here:

Windows Media Format Runtime 11 description
Windows Media Format runtime is required for WMA (Windows Media Audio) and
WMV (Windows Media Video)
Windows Media Format Runtime 11 is for people who want to use the latest
Windows Media Player codecs whithout installing Windows Media Player 11.

Windows Media Format runtime is required for WMA (Windows Media Audio) and
WMV (Windows Media Video)

So, if you are going to use the Player, you'll need both.
