Why can't Microsoft make Windows Media Edition generally
available? If I have and Asus P4C800P deluxe motherboard,
a 3.2 GHz 800 Mhz FSB Pentium 4 Processor, an ATI 9700 All
in Wonder Pro Graphics card, two 60 G.B. serial ATA H.D.'s
in a RAID Zero configuration. 1 G.B. PC 400 DDR SDRAM. 8
USB Ports and two 1394a firewire ports. A Combo DVD CD RWR
recorder player, a 21" Wide flat panel LCD monitor, a Web
Cam, a wireless network hub connected to my GB lan
connection, why can't I purchase Windows Media Center 2004
from Microsoft? Can somebody tell me?

Windows XP Media Center Edition is only available to computer
manufacturers for pre-installation on new computers. It is not a
version available independently.

Greetings --

Because Microsoft made the business decision to provide WinXP MCE
_only_ as an OEM installation on PCs that were specifically designed
for the purpose. It's their product, and they're entitled to sell it
any way they like.
