Windows ME, and trouble connecting to the net

Hello,

Recently my family decided we wanted to get high-speed internet for our
house. We have 2 computers one in My room and one in the gaming room. The
problem I have is that my old computer in my room had Windows 98 originally
installed into and we just put Windows ME in it because we thought it would
go much faster. It is alot better and goes smoothly. The only problem is that
the 16 colors and the screen resolution is stuck at 640 by something (sorry
for the lack of info). So we decided to do windows update to see if we could
get something for that. Unfourtunatly, our current isp's installer wants
800x600 for the screen to install. We have tried everything. Also the
computer monitor we use on the 98 is our old Xp monitor ( it got cracked so
we got a new monitor) could that be the problem? Any help would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks

Hi,

You should have posted this question at microsoft.public.win98.setup
instead of here. This is the Windows 2000 MSI installer group.

Anyway, the reason you are stuck at 640x480 in 16 color mode is because
you have not installed the video card drivers. You need to find your
video card CD or you need to find drivers for your video card model.
Once you find the drivers you need to install them.

Hope this helps,

Windows 98 and ME are no longer supported, and if I recall correctly there
are no more security fixes for those Windows versions. I really wouldn't
recommend connecting to the internet with such a vulnerable machine.
