Windows MCI Player

I am trying to play MP3 songs using Windows MCI Player and mcisendstring.
Some of my mp3's play fine and others don't produce any sound but yet Windows
MultiMedia Player plays them fine. Has Microsoft given us a bum API in MCI
and reserved the good one for their own Windows Media Player so no one give
them any compeition?

Found out the reason. In fact M'soft has provided a limited API in the MCI
family. You can only play 192bps or less MP3's. It won't play higher like
320mp3's. Typical of M'soft!

I assume that this depends on the installed codecs.

What codecs would I need to install? Ofher programs on my computer play mp3
files of 320 bpr ok including Nero, GoldWave, and Windows MultiMedia Player.

I stumbled around and found a codec that does work and lets MCI play 320bps
files. Thanks so mucy Herfried for putting me on the right track!
