Windows mail

Hello,
I must have made an error in following the basic process and can't seem to
figure out how to get what I need back-- I was recently prompted to upgrade
my mail from outlook to Windows mail -- I accepted the prompt and
immediately lost all of my mail in my inbox, all of my files etc. (a ton of
stuff) I have been trying to follow the only note now in my new inbox (no
new mail now in a few days)
Where following the process seems to break down -- when I click on the
tools menu - I do not have any "accounts" prompt , I do have Windows
Contacts, add to contacts, windows calendar and Junk e-mail options but NO
accounts ??
(see pasted note below from the Welcome to windows mail E-Mail)

"If you're upgrading from Outlook Express, Windows Mail can import your
existing account information and e-mail addresses. The first time you start
Windows Mail, you will be prompted to set up an e-mail account. If you skip
this step and want to set up a new account later, click the Tools menu,
click Accounts, and then click Add."

Open Windows Mail
Go to Tools - Accounts - Add

Windows Mail, which replaces Outlook Express in Vista, cannot access any
http email account.

However, you can use the newer Windows Live Mail to access your http
Live/Hotmail/MSN accounts using DeltaSynch like you may have done using
Outlook Express on XP.

Or, you can use either Windows Mail or Windows Live Mail to access POP3 or
IMAP accounts.

MSFT recently added POP3 access to Hotmail/Live accounts from most
countries.

However, Windows Mail is hard-coded to reject Hotmail/Live/MSN accounts, but
you can fool it by entering a fake email address ([email protected]), then
changing it to your real address ([email protected]).
