I have a Windows Live Mail account and a Yahoo account and they both show up
on the left hand side of my Window Live Mail account so I can choose which
account I want to use or, for example, which inbox to look in.

At the bottom, also on the left hand side of my Windows Live Mail account,
it shows 'Add e-mail account', which is what I want to do with a new 'AOL'
account and I want it to show on the left hand side like the two other
accounts.

So I made a new AOL e-mail account, clicked 'Add e-mail account' at the
bottom of my 'Windows Live Account', then I put in my new AOL e-mail account
and password where it showed me.

Then I clicked next. Ahh, now this is where I get stuck and need some help.

The next page was all about my email server. When I did this before with a
new e-mail account, it was all filled out automatically for me, but this
time, all the blanks were left open and I have no idea what to fill in. I
believe once I have this information, the AOL e-mail account will
automatically then show on the left hand pane of my Windows Live Mail
account below the other two accounts.

Can anybody help me and give me an idea what I need to fill in about the
server?

You are using Windows Live Mail which is a different program than
Windows Mail. The newsgroup to which you posted is dedicated to
supporting the Windows Mail program.
You will get more help by posting Windows Live Mail questions in
the WLM newsgroup:

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop

AOL accounts need to be added manually using these instructions:
http://postmaster.aol.com/imap/express.html

Those instructions were written for Outlook Express, but
Windows Live Mail uses the same settings as Outlook Express.

Hello,

I went to the AOL link as given me via the post above and followed all the
instructions.

Everything went well at first and my AOL account showed up on my Windows
Live e-mail account on the left hand side that is what I wanted.

The only problem is; although it shows the AOL account, it does not show any
of the folders like inbox, drafts, sent items etc.

Anyway, whilst in the AOL account, there was a notice at the top of the
account that said; 'Windows Live mail needs to download the folders before
you can read the messages in this account. To download the folders list,
click download'.

I clicked the 'Download' button but instead of all the folders being
downloaded into the account, which is what I wanted, a small window pops up
which says; 'the host (e-mail address removed)' could not be found. Please verify that
you have entered the server name correctly. I did follow and put in all the
correct information for the server as explained to me by that link.

Behind the small window is another window which is telling me I am not
connected. And behind that window is a large window which is showing me the
different accounts I have. In this window, the AOL account is highlighted
but it is not showing any folders in it such as inbox, drafts, sent items
etc.

Can you tell me please, how can I get these folders to show below my AOL
account showing?

Brenda

Apparently you entered the incoming server name as
"(e-mail address removed)" which is not correct.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties Servers.
Change the incoming server name to imap.aol.com.
Those settings are all in that link I gave you.

Durr!! I must have had brain damage. I changed it and it is okay now and
works fine. Thank you very much Gary.

There is one other question I would like to ask?

Although I will be using my 'Windows Live Mail', which shows my other
accounts and this new one I have just opened, two of them show in my
'Windows Mail' account which I never use.

Can I delete the two in the 'Windows Mail' account and just use them from my
'Windows Live Mail' account?

Brenda

Good to hear it is working correctly now.

Yes, you can delete accounts from Windows Mail and just
use them from Windows Live Mail.

Okay thanks very much Gary.

When I went to remove the e-mail client in 'Windows Mail', a window came up
showing this below;

Windows mail is not currently your default news client. Would you like to
make it your default news client?

Do I click yes or no in this instance? Or does it not matter?

Brenda

Since you are apparently using Windows Live Mail for both
mail and newsgroups, the correct response is 'No'.
You want Windows Live Mail to remain the default.

Okay, gotcha'.

So do many people use 'Windows Mail'? It seems a waste of a program to be
in Vista and not to be used. I suppose you could use it as a spare e-mail
account?

Brenda

Since it's included with Vista, many people still use it.
However, it never hurts to have a 'spare' or fallback.
