I am running Vista and keep getting box saying it can compact mail but when
ticking box to do it, error message 0x800c0155 keeps appearing suggesting
some files are corrupt but have used programs that clean up PC, so why is
there a problem.
 
The programs you used to "clean up" your PC probably corrupted the
Windows Mail message store. Windows PCs don't need clean-up programs.
They do more harm than good.

About your only fix at this point is to upgrade to Windows Live Mail:
