We don't know any of that either because we don't know who your email
provider is. Whoever it is probably has a Web page with instructions.

WITH ALL OF THE REPLIES FOR HELPING PEOPLE SET UP WINDOWS MAIL I STILL DON'T
UNDERSTAND. WHAT EMAIL ADDRESS AM I SUPPOSE TO USE TO SET IT UP? WHAT WILL BE
MY EMAIL IN WINDOWS MAIL? thanx, Brian

The email program does not determine what your email address is.
You get your email address either from your Internet service provider
or your mail provider. Have you never had an email address before?

Incidentally, typing in all CAPS is discouraged.

yes i've had email before. can you give me an example of what i should use
please? should i use a yahoo or hotmail address? if so then isn't that like
having a duplicate yahoo or hotmail address? and thanx Gary, Brian

Windows Mail is not like Hotmail or Yahoo webmail.
It is primarily designed for email addresses you get from your
ISP, like (e-mail address removed). If you want to continue using an
existing webmail address, like (e-mail address removed) or (e-mail address removed),
there is no need for a separate desktop email program like Windows Mail.

i have time warner cable road runner on the main desktop however i need to
set up windows mail on my notebook? or how do i find out who my ISP is? i'm
suing borrowed wireless until i get a wireless router.

So, Time Warner Road Runner is your home ISP.
What email service do you use on the desktop PC?
Would you not want to use the same email address on both the
desktop and the notebook?

i'm using windows mail. cable company helped me set it up. can i use them for
my laptop? if so how? do i need a wireless router?

Yes, you can set up the same email address on your notebook.
Simply duplicate whatever the desktop has in Windows Mail, under
Tools, Accounts.

However, since the notebook is portable, you won't always be using
the same Internet connection as your desktop computer. This can
cause problems when using Windows Mail on the notebook.
A better solution for you will be to use Road Runner webmail on
your notebook. That will work with any Internet connection.

So, you cannot have a (e-mail address removed) email address for
Windows Mail ?

I don't want my real email address to show.

G

Gary VanderMolen

That depends on whether you are using its email function or its
newsgroups function. For newsgroups like this one you can choose
any email address you want, even a non-working email address like
the one I use here. Newsgroups do not use email addresses for
anything functional.

When sending an email, however, your mail provider is likely to
insist that you use a valid email address that you actually own.

You set up Windows Mail to access an existing POP or IMAP email account.
Open Windows Mail, click on Tools - Accounts - Add.. - E-mail account
Input the necessary info to access your email account server, etc.
