Vista Home Premium....

I can receive e-mails okay but my Windows Mail (outgoing) has suddenly
stopped working with the error - Subject 'test', Account: 'Ed', Server:
'mail.btinternet.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error
Number: 0x800CCC19.

I was sending a test message to my wife's account.

Does anyone recognise this error message who knows how to cure it?

TIA

Clogged Outbox in Windows Mail is a known bug. MVP Steve Cochran wrote a
program to clear it. http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/

Usually, this indicates that the mail setup does not have the option
"My Server Requires Authentification" enabled for Outbound mail.
Is this inability to send a new problem or have you never been able
to send mail from this account ?

Most ISPs provide a Step-by-Step guide for mail setup on their
website.

Okay I tried downloading the WMUtil that Lee Chappelle suggested, clicked on
clear outbox, but still can't send mail, same error message.

Any suggestions anyone, I've tried setting up e-mail account again and
clearing any e-mails from outbox, I'm also on Vista Home Premium and BT
internet, is this a BT thing or a Vista thing, just wondering as it seems to
be mostly BT users affected......

The problem is the BT server port changed. Change the SMTP port to 587 from
25 under Tools | Accounts | Mail | Properties | Servers.

Nice of them to let everyone know.

Yes Port 587 works - but I don't think that BT have changed it, they still
don't know what is wrong and are still busy trying to fix it (for the default
port 25). I think Port 587 is like a kind of back door/tradesmans entrance to
email that has always worked. Xp computers can happily used port 25 to send
emails - but for some reason Vista ones can't.

Not Vista, I think, as mine sends quite happily at port 25.

I have simular in Vista Home Premium. I have 2 emails in my out box which
can't be sent. If I press 'send/receive' it will only receive messages. The
first message in the outbox if I try to open it reads 'Message could be
displayed'.

I can not delele this message. If I right klick on it and choose Properties
I get a box come up saying "the propertties of this message could not be
displayed. An error has occurred"

The other 2 messages can be opened but not sent.

My AVG anti-virus is up to date.

After applying this fix delete the ones that can't be opened. Then the
others should send.
Messages may be stuck in the Outbox when you use Windows Mail on a computer
that is running Windows Vista
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941090
It also works on other folders.
