Windows Mail-Word2007-Vista Business

When in Word 2007, I click 'Send' and the attach to email option isn't
available (grayed out) ... am I missing an option somewhere (I hope) or
isn't that feature compatible with Windows Mail??

I had the same issue. Send worked with Excel but not with Word. Microsoft
told me to install Outlook and now I can send from Word.

Start | Default Programs
Set Windows Mail as the default.
 
Read the last post in that thread (which happens to be my post).
No registry editing required.
