Windows Mail slow to respond

I'm trying to migrate from Outlook to Windows calendar. I've imported my
calendar.ics file from Outlook no problem. But Windows Calendar is extremely
slow to respond, even to simple requests like clicking on a different date to
show the appointments (about 7 seconds!). What's likely causing this? (The
calendar.ics file is about 3MB - is this the problem? It runs fine in
Outlook, with almost instantaneious response). New PC, Windows Vista.
