Windows mail preview, safe or not . . .

Conor

Why does windows mail preview claim to just preview a message without opening
it and then after a minute or so the envelope icon along side it shows an
opened message. Is this safe and if not, can I turn off the preview mode. Who
needs it. If I select a message, even to right click it, so I can delete it,
it goes into preview mode. Is this strange or is it just me.

Any help appreciated . . . Conor.

As far as safety, there is little difference between opening an email
in its own window versus seeing it in the preview pane. For me it is
quicker to read in the preview pane (it takes viewer clicks).
If for some reason you don't like the preview pane, turn it off:
View, Layout, uncheck "Show preview pane".

Thanks for the reply but only half answered ! In the first place when I open
windows mail it highlights the first email in the list which is automatically
previewed.
Why does the help in windows mail claim it is not opened. Yet highlights it
as so one minute later ! I did not ask it to be highlighted and susequently
opened.
Why can't I decide when I want to open an email or not. If I don't want to
read the email, then I can't highlight it to be deleted without be previewed
first and so it it therefore opened ! Does that make sense or I am now
starting to confuse myself . . .
Maybe I'll do as you suggest, close the preview window and then I'll be able
to select them myself.
Thanks, Conor.

If that what the Help information says, it is wrong.
Viewing a message in the preview pane changes its 'unread' status
to 'read'.

Thanks for your advice. I closed the preview window and I am now happy with
my setup. Just one other ask ! Where has the refresh button gone in IE7. I
know it can be selected in the view pane, but the button in IE6 was better.

Previewing an E-mail and marking it as read is not the same as opening it as
far as safety is concerned.
