Windows Mail just stops working

Every once in a while when I try and send an email the message is lost and
Windows Mal stops working and then restarts. Now I have to save all my
messages in Microsoft Word before I send any email on Windows Mail in case
this happens! Does anyone know why this happens?
 
Gary, I don't want to use Live Mail! I like having my mailboxes
consolidated. Can you help me fix the issue?
 
Unfortunately Windows Mail has been pretty much abandoned by MS since
about July 2006. Windows Mail has some corruption issues which will
never be fixed. Here are some things you can try:

Try running the various repair functions in the WMUtil program:

If no improvement, there is a rather laborious way of resetting Windows Mail.
Follow this procedure:

Scroll down to the section "PROBLEM TWO: How to Backup and Reset
Windows Mail ".

Even if you manage to fix the problem for now, it will probably come back later.
Frankly, you'd be much better off simply upgrading to Windows Live Mail:

Outlook also uses a consolidated inbox. If you don't like Live Mail, you
might consider Outlook, though this *is not by any means free*.

Alternately, you might consider having a look at other available mail
clients if you can't get WM fixed reliably.
