Windows Mail Import from Outlook Express

TonyUK

Having just purchased a laptop running Vista Home Premium, I am setting up a
Windows Mail account and I wish to import all my Outlook Express Folders and
Address Book from my Windows XP SP2 machine.

Could someone re-direct me to the correct group for dealing with this, or
even tell me where to find the information necessary to make the
export/import transition?

I would be most grateful for any help anyone can give me here.

The correct group would be
microsoft.public.windows.vista.mail

Copy all of the OE .dbx files (including folders.dbx) from the XP computer
to a temporary folder on the Vista computer
Open Windows Mail, File - Import - Messages - Microsoft Outlook Express 6
import from OE6 store directory
find the temporary folder where you copied the .dbx files (BUT DON'T OPEN
IT).
Next.... etc.

If you want to import your contacts, copy the .wab file over, and do a
similar File - Import
of the Windows Contacts.

Thank you so much for the advice. I will try out these things and I will let
you know how it goes in due course.

Thank you Sam for pointing out my lack of literacy.

Maybe it's because I am the product of a first class academic education and
a lifetime of practise as an attorney that I seem to lack the sophisticated
approach to the discovery of facts hidden in arcane places.

I have noticed that whereas in the Windows XP General Newsgroup the tone of
questions and of responses has become more toned down, those who seek only to
denigrate and insult others rather than give help and advice have migrated to
this particular newsgroup.

I do hope that you will think on this and decide for yourself whether your
message had anything positive to offer. I recommend that if you have nothing
positive to add, you should just be quiet. The fact is that the person who
did respond to me gave me quick and useful advice which enabled me to solve
the problem immediately: which is more than your response has done.

You are nobody.

Dave, I am grateful to you for your reponse. Your advice was entirely well
received and worked perfectly. I wish I had your expertise. I am grateful.

Yeah; sorry... I meant "please post in the aptly named 'Windows Mail'
newsgroup." What reader are you using that is so disorganized? I could
easily find it under Vista in the web-based one.

I said "if you ARE literate," not "if you WERE literate." I don't see how
the interface is too confusing to find the Mail newsgroup. There's a simple
tree format that easily lets you find the one named accordingly.
