XP doesn't have Windows Mail. Vista prevents you from doing a lot of
things that XP lets you do. MS calls it the Wow Effect.

Mac,

Look for "Windows Live Mail Desktop." It will handle multiple accounts and
works with Hotmail.

Agreed, but WM is just OE repackaged...

WLMD is adware.

Thunderbird is the much better choice. Period.
You won't be able to check your Hotmail with it,
but it works just fine for Gmail and AOL/AIM email.
It's just a better product.

Not sure why I need to use Beta software to get old functionality though...

Vista is not XP.....SIMPLE!

Why Hotmail isn't in Windows mail, My guess is Microsoft is promoting
Windows live mail. Are they doing it for monetary reasons? Sure they
are. But if you have issues with that you can always use another web
based email server (one that supports email forwarding)

Drives me crazy to hear people say "It use to work on XP"
Get a clue people! It's a new ball game, Don't upgrade if you don't
want change. If your upset because you feel forced to buy a new system
without XP, Buy a MAC! Or build/buy a custom PC and install an
alternative OS on it. (I'm sure you'll find all kinds of support for
that here)

The only way Microsoft will change it's policy is if people just don't
buy Vista. MONEY TALKS BULLSHIT WALKS

Should we all still be able to choose to buy a new PC with either
Vista or XP or what ever? Yes I think we should, but who here has sat
in Bill Gates chair and has had the resources he has to see where he
wants HIS company to go? We have not a clue on the big picture of
things to come.

Hell try to get just 10 people to agree on just one thing and see how
far you get. Now think about what a company like Microsoft has to deal
with, Thank God I don't have to make a program that pleases EVERYONE.
I am much better off being the consumer and choosing what company I
decide to give my hard earned money to.

Probably because they are phasing out the Hotmail free accounts except thru
internet access and while they have grandfathered in older accounts for the
moment this is one more step to make it inconvenient so you will upgrade to
one of the paid versions.

"upgrade to one of the paid versions."

Or, use their adware WLMD. Either way, it's a revenue driven push.

That's good news. Perhaps, Mac will look into that.

I rarely use Hotmail, and only have one so that I can sign
into Microsoft sites like Connect. It's more of a throw
away address, and I would never consider it a primary.
I use Outlook for email, but Thunderbird does a great
job for newsgroups.

Actually, I think you can use any address now for the
Passport/Windows Live ID, whatever it's called now.

Take care,

Michael

The problems with Windows Mail all seem to relate to Mail. I have
not encountered any with newsgroups!

And how many companies went out of business with their free everything push
in the early 2000's. Profit keeps innovation coming. Losses produce
nothing.

Consider yourself lucky. I never used it for mail, only for newsgroups
and it was terrible. Especially, for busy newsgroups. Two days to mark
all messages read, that's just a slight exaggeration. Some users, myself
included, had to actually open Windows Calender first, before we could
get compose/reply windows to open quickly. We discussed this in the mail
newsgroup and we have no idea why it is that way, it makes no sense. But,
that's the way it is for some of us. I gave up and moved on to Thunderbird
for reading newsgroups... it's so much better.
