Hello,
I too have VISTA. I have been hours on the phone with HP about Windows Mail.
At first I could not send anything with an attachment. Now I can not send
any email at all. Error #0x800CCC79. Was your problem ever resolved?

When you got that error message, was your Internet connection being
obtained from Optus? The general rule for port 25 SMTP is that the
server must be on the same network as your Internet connection.

We can't do much with just a fragment of the error message.
Right-click on the error message, copy, then paste it into a reply
here. It should look similar to the one submitted by Ben Ramsay below.

thought i should share this post to a later thread.

I have the same problem - with the addition that I am ok with computers!

The problem is internittant - no rational behind it - other than that the
GoogleMail server is 'often' down - which I doubt!

I start Windows Mail (on Vista Ultimate portable PC) configured to
automatically send/receive mail at start-up. It asks me for Username and
Password. I enter it once and it keeps asking me again, till it opens the
Send/Receive progress window (ctrl-M to show at first start-up) to inform of
error.

I ignore it and get my work done directly from the brower (from the Site).
Sometime later, I try it again and it still does not work - again sometime
later (no specific wait-period) - I try it and it works - downloads messages
from the google mail server!

Very odd erratic behavior!

I guess all the questions asked of Ben may be the wrong way to go - the same
settings work sometimes and then not.

Will appreciate any illumination on how to get rid of this irritant and
un-productive behavior.

Thanks.

Not sure about Vista mail but 800CCC0E in Outlook express is cannot connect
to server, used to see it alot on my server(roadrunner)but they finally
fixed the problem.
when I had it I could usually check back in an hour or so and it would work.
Only other thing I can think of, was one time I had hit the comma instead of
the dot when setting up the server.
Try calling the ISP tech support and see what they have to say.

I habe found a possible cause, chech with your ISP, In my case I checked
with optus and they advised me that they were having truoble with there mail
server.

This may be a good place to start for other people as well, I hope it is
helpful.
