According to Apple: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1152
that server may work better with port 587, so give that a try.
Apple also recommends using the SSL option, however, I don't
think Windows Mail supports SSL on port 587, so try it without
SSL first.
Also, make sure you have send authentication enabled.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Servers.
The box for "My server requires authentication" must be checked.

Lindamom, your error message should be different, since your mail server is different.

I see you posted with a Yahoo email address. Is that your
only email address? US-based free Yahoo accounts have webmail
access only, no POP access. Windows Mail handles POP mail but not
webmail. There are two Yahoo solutions:

1. How did you access Yahoo mail before? If you are happy with
webmail via your browser, you can continue to use that.

2. Pay Yahoo to get their premium "Mail Plus" service:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/mailplus/overview/index.html
and use the special settings for that service:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/original/mailplus/pop/pop-14.html

If you are OK with using a non-Yahoo email address, you have three other
solutions:
* Use the email address assigned to you by your ISP.
* Get a free Gmail account.
* Get a free Hotmail/Live account, and use it with the Windows Live Mail email program.

Henk, when you got that error message, was your Internet connection
being provided by Chello.nl? Port 25 SMTP will not work if your
Internet connection is from a different provider than the mail server.

If you need some workarounds, let us know how you typically connect
to the Internet, e.g., with a laptop using random Wi-Fi hotspots?
