Windows Mail .dbx and .wab files

I have read various threads about exportinting from outlook 2000 to outlook
express to windows mail. Most suggested getting the .dbx and .wab files from
my old pc onto the new. However when I went through the suggested processes
only .dbx files were produced I can not find a .wab file. Is it essential to
have a .wab file or can I follow the process without the .wab. The process I
am following is discussed in the "Transfer from Outlook" thread started back
in 8/28/2007.

Windows Mail does not have DBX and WAB files.

The .wab file contains OE's address book. The .dbx files contain the
messages. Yes, you can import .dbx files without the .wab file.

To migrate the contacts, you can use export from Outlook, choosing
the CSV format, which can then be imported into Windows Mail.

I'm having trouble as well. I imported my messeges from Outlook over to
Outlook Express on the old computer, that part was easy. I have gone to
"start" then "search" and typed .dbx then clicked search but it doesn't find
the files (this is on office 2000) What am I doing wrong? Thanks,

Office Outlook does not have dbx files. These dbx files are found in Outlook Express. To find the dbx files you will need to Show all Files checked in Windows Explorer\Tools\Folder Options\View\Hidden Files and Folders

Peter,
You are talking about Internet Explorer correct? When I go to tools I
see a internet options but not a "folder options"? I assume I'm no where near
where I'm suppose to be with all of this. In my defense though; if I knew
much about computers and OL, OE, or WM I wouldn't be on here bothering
everyone so please be as detailed as you can with your help. To assume I know
nothing about all of this obviously would not be a stretch! Thanks in advance
to any and all who spend their time trying to help me with this!

Okay, I researched, searched, and experimented, and have finally found .dbx
files. The search listed them all seperately i.e. callender.dbx,
contacts.dbx, deleted item .dbx etc. Do I copy them to my thumb drive
seperately or somehow copy and import them as one big file? Thanks!
