Windows Mail closes when click on link in email

When I click on a link within an email message, Windows Mail closes. If I
open web browser and then click on link in email message, Windows Mail still
closes but the browser will go to the link. Need assistance with
troubleshooting issue.
 
Go to Control Panel | Default programs and check your defaults.
