Windows Mail background sound

When Outlook Express was used, and background sound was added to a
message, you could hear the sound while composing the message.

Now, using Windows Mail on Vista, I can add background sound, and
recipients hear it okay, but I cannot hear it during composition ...so
I'm always unsure that it's there, and it's the sound I want.

I've looked high and low, but cannot find a solution. (In WinXP, the
first thing you did was check the volume control for midi & sw synth,
but those controls don't seem to be there anymore.)

I do have all the file associations in place, including midi and mid
associated with Windows Media player.

Thanks for any help.

Go to View | Source Edit in the composition window and that will enable the
3 tabs at the bottom, including the preview tab. You can also check the
source tab for the <BGSOUND > element. The volume may be set very low by
one of your sound devices and you can change it in the code to 0 (the
loudest), if that is the case. And then check your sound device volume
settings if that is the problem.

Thank you, Steve!

All I had to do was go select Source Edit, then to the source tab, or
the preview tab, and the sound came on; I didn't have to change any
code, or any settings.

I don't understand why opening opening Source Edit corrected the
problem, but it is corrected, and my wife will be happy.
