Whenever I open Windows Mail I am asked for my server id and password several
times before mail is sent or received. Although I have ticked "Remember
password" in the Account Properties this continues to happen.

Thanks for the tip, Steve. I tried disabling the antivirus scan but the
problem is still there. I had to login 5 times before any mail was delivered.
The problem seems to be in connecting to the mail server.

Sadly, disabling email scanning is often not sufficient, the program must be
uninstalled, then re-installed by a "Custom" install where you can select to
NOT install any of the email scanning modules/features/components. This is
particularly true with Norton and McAfee products which, in addition to the
above, require a special cleanup utility to be run after the uninstall to
remove all the debris (files, registry entries, etc.) that the uninstaller
leaves behind. Who's product are you using?
