If you want to use mail providers who use HTTP servers, download and install
Windows Live Mail, which does support them:

Which email provider do you normally use? That would be the
part of your email address after the @ symbol.

Assuming it is a free Hotmail account, you have several options.

You can download and install a newer email program called Windows Live Mail:
http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview
It does support Hotmail HTTP servers.

If you don't want a POP email program, you may be able to use this fix
developed for Hotmail users:

Another option is to start using the email service provided by your ISP.
