I posted these earlier but I can't see it having come up. I'm sorry if some
of you see it. It is not meant to be multiple posting.

I'm using Vista Home Premium.

Suddenly, for no apparent reason, I can't send e-mails. I have 3 accounts,
all correctly configured. All receive okay but can't send. I get the error
message: 0x800CCC19. Clearly not reaching the server connection although the
progress box states "Connected".

I checked out the server status, BT Broadband, all was okay, not even any
huge files waiting, and I've checked my Norton antivirus etc and can't see
anyhing wrong there or that has changed overnight.

After looking up the error message I found something about deleting the file
pop3uidl but this is for Outlook Express. I could not find this file anyway,
not even on my XP Home laptop.

Microsoft Support was no use.

Can anyone help me with this?

TIA

Obviously, something has changed, it might be a recent update, it might be
some change in your firewall, perhaps some other software you installed
recently. In any event, you might try using System Restore to take you back
to a time prior to when this began. Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\System
Tools\System Restore.

While System Restore should only restore your settings and registry, you
should make sure your data is well backed up as a precaution.

Something similar happened to me with OE on WXP. There was a corrupted item
in the outbox which timed out the server, but OE gave me no indication that
it was trying to send something, or I didn't recognize that it was trying to
send something. Removing that item from the outbox fixed the problem.

Thanks, Michael.

I have thought of that, and I did load Battlefield 2 a week or so ago, but
all has been working fine until this morning. SR is a last result but will
not cure a corrupt file.

Kind regards,

You're welcome, Ed.

Charles is correct about Norton and McAfee and Windows Mail and I failed to
mention that as a possible cause.

As to the timing of the installation ob Battlefield 2, sometimes it takes
awhile for something to kick in or trigger and issue. It can depend on what
something is using within the system as applications, even games, don't
always use everything.

Not exactly true about a corrupt file. Here's why. If you go back to
before you did something, before an install for example, the install may no
longer be there after System Restore and may take the problem with it,
assuming the problem is within that application.

Now, as to a corrupted file, if that's the cause, there is something you can
do about that as well. you can open a Command Prompt and type sfc /scannow
and press enter and that will check all the system files. NOTE the space
between sfc and the forward slash.

Clogged Outbox in Windows Mail is a known bug. MVP Steve Cochran wrote a
program to clear it. http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/

Thanks, Michael, I'll be trying that. I have it in mind now to remove the
game and use a preinstallation R/Point.

I think the problem is with BT Smtp servers. I think the best action is - do
nothing with your own PC - wait for BT to fix their end. I have the same
problem since 24/07/07 08:00a.m. - as have many others using BT. See also
thread entiltle "can't send mail?" With BT - both their helpdesk and lots of
other people 'trying to help' - they will get you to rebuild, re-configure,
re-set, "re-anything" your entire PC to fix a problem which is in reality
somewhere else. I know from my own experience, I spent 6 weeks doing these
sort of things back in January to sort out an email problem - when the
problem was all the time at BT's end. So my advice again - do nothing - or if
you must, then complain to or report your problem to BT - and wait for them
to fix it.

I am in touch with BT and they're phoning me today. I hope you're right. I
have got used to trouble free PCs, being one of the lucky ones, and this is
beginning to get to me. I have now done all I can...

An odd thing, though.... I send e-mails to the Newsgroup with no problem,
yet can't get to the outside world. That does indicate it might be a BT
problem.

Regards,

Ed

Well, I did not think I had a clogged outbox but this little gadget did find
one 0 byte file. Unfortunately, nothing helped.

Thanks again....

Ed

Yes, it was BT. The fault lay with the outgoing port having changed. It was
25 and is now 587.

Very slow warning us, but still managed to clear it up. They could have
e-mailed me and I could have changed it much quicker myself, but never mind.
All okay now.

Thanks to everybody for the input.

Kind regards,

Ed

You still should watch out for antivirus software scanning email. See
www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

Also in the newsgroups, go to Tools | Options | Read and uncheck the option
to download xxx headers at a time and that will then allow you to see all
the headers. Otherwise its very flaky.

Thanks, Steve. Will do .

The Norton I use was supplied by BT (British Telecom), my ISP. They're
ranked among the best but let me down a bit here. Norton has shown no
problems to date but I would like to know how to disable it. When loading
or playing some games, it can get in the way.

Best wishes,

Ed

Some are having major problems with Norton installed and others are not, so
go figure.

I won't put any software by Symantec on my machines.
