Windows logon not retaining last logon user name

Hello:

I have a workstation running off of Window XP SP2, and have a problem with
the system remembering the last logon user name after rebooting.

I am using a user name that has administrator rights, but it is not the
default system administrator account. I also have it configured that I do
not have to manually put in the user name (I don't require a password), and
it automatically boots right past the logon screen.

The problem is that when it boots up, it "defaults" back to the system
administrator account, then I have to log off and then relog on to get back
to the user account I want to be in.

Are there some settings (or reset) that I am missing?

Thanks

It sounds like you missed a step when you setup automatic
logon. Try this:

Go to Start -> Run and enter the following in the Open box,

control userpasswords2

In the User Account applet, put a check mark in the box next to
"Users must enter a user name and password to use this
computer".
In the "Users for this computer" box, click on your user
account so it's highlighted.
Next, remove the check mark and hit the Apply or OK button.
You should see the "Automatically Log on" box with your user
account entered next to User Name. Make sure it's your account
that's listed. Here's where you ran into trouble earlier by
leaving the built-in Administrator account entered.
Since your password is blank, leave those lines empty and click
OK twice.
Reboot to see if you get the desired results.

Good luck

In XP Pro there is a security option that you can set to manage last logon
behaviour that you may want to check out. Use secpol.msc to open Local
Security Policy and then go to local policies/security options. Look for the
option for interactive logon: do not display last user name and try setting
it to disabled to see if that helps.

Thanks for your reply. I did try your suggestion, and the setting wa
already set at what you had suggested. However, I did try the suggestion in
this thread by Nepatsfan, and that did work. Such a simple thing, but yet I
would have never known this otherwise. Thank you for trying with your
repsonse, I appreciate the effort.
