Windows Login Problems

I am unable to gain access to any of my files on my desktop.

I came home after leaving for the weekend to discover that my computer
had restarted. I leave my computer on all the time as it saves the
start up time and i am usually working on something that I leave open.
I usually run a virus scan atleast once a week and adware scan everyday
if i can. I have been having problems a lot lately with my computer
restarting on its own and having many adware problems regardless of the
scans I do. This time when I came back and turned on my monitar it had
restarted again. I have the regular login with XP. I put in my password
and noticed it took a few moments to login. When it loged in my desktop
background that is normally tiled was stretch out and that was as far
as the login process would go. I have no icons on my desktop and my
start menu and taskbar will not show up. When i press Ctrl + Alt + Del
it says that i do not have permission to access. I am the only person
who uses the computer and am the admin. I have many files that I need
off my desktop. I wouldn't mind reinstalling windows, the only problem
is that i have many files on my desktop that i do not want to loose. So
far I have tried installing a seperate windows installation in the
windows folder (C:\windows\windows). The only problem is that i am not
able to acces the account as I do not have the permission.

Would anyone know how to solve this problem. It has gotten my very
stumped and frustrated. All I want is to be able to gain access to
those files somehow and get them off.

Thank You

if that doesn't work then use UBCD4Win and burn them to a CD.
