Every time I open outlook the windows installer screen comes up and tries to
configure outlook 2000. This used to happen when I would try to use the
search application. I just cancel the installer and outllook opens fine. Any
suggestions?

If working with a Windows 2000/XP box, does it do this under a new profile?
(I've seen the installer get so confused that you have to switch to get a
new user profile before the installer settles down.)

ps - i am assuming that you tried a detect and repair via the add/remove
applet in the control panel and it didn't help.

Try running a detect and repair. (you might have to do office/outlook 2000
+ whatever product is triggering the feature install. Try looking in the
event logs to see if it gives any clue as to what feature it wants to add.)

How do I check the event logs?

For Windows 2000/XP/2003, just right click on My computer and select manage.
From there it is System Tools > Event Viewer.

The events type is warning, event numbers are alternating 1001 and1004 they
alternated when I tryed to cancel the installer 6 times. Help.
