Windows Installer

I recently tried to install Quicken 2008 on my Vista Home Premium system - it
installed with an error. It worked for the most part, but was missing one key
sub-program. I checked the Quicken site and found a solution, which involved
running a supplied uninstall program and reinstalling. Same problem. I tried
again, this time also searching the registry for all instances of Quicken and
deleting them. Upon trying to reinstall the second time, I get a "corrupted
Windows Installer" error (no number). Other programs that use Windows
Installer will also no longer install, and there don't seem to be any restore
points previous to this point, though I've made many. I've tried to find a
fix, short of reinstalling Windows, but have had no luck. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Ron

Could be a conflict with your AV program. Norton, McAfee and Trend Micro are
known to cause problems in Vista. Are you running one of them?

Thanks for the reply, Bob. No, I'm not running anything you mentioned - I use
AVG for my Anti-Virus program, but there have been no changes other than the
attempt to uninstall and reinstall Quicken - and everything (including
Installer) was working well until then.

You're welcome.
Try right clicking Quicken and Run As Administrator.

If no joy, run sfc /scannow.

Again, thank you, Bob. Sorry for the long delay in replying. I was already
running as administrator. I again deleted all traces of Quicken 2008, then
tried running sfc \scannow, which seemed to repair Installer - but I still
couldn't install Quicken - although I could find no trace of the program
either via Windows Search, or in the registry, something remained to tell
Quicken that there was an old version installed, couldn't delete it, and so
bombed out. The problem seems to be entirely with Quicken - I reinstalled my
older version, and it worked fine. I've now got some new instructions from
Intuit, and will try that - but I now don't think it's a Windows problem. So,
thank you anyway for your time.

You're welcome.

Have you tried QcleanUI tool to uninstall Quicken

Have you tried Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

Have you tried installing in Safe Mode?
Have you tried installing to a new folder?
Have you deleted all registry entries for Intuit?

Have you tried drizzling chicken blood in a pentagram while chanting to a
full moon?
