Running WinXP Home. Recently went to <add/remove pgms> to modify an
installed software pgm, & got the note "the installation source for this pgm
is not available...."
No problem, I thought, since I have the Windows Installer Cleanup pgm which
I've used b4 to fix a corrupt install. Since I couldn't remove that software
using <add/remove>, I removed it via Windows Installer Cleanup & then
reinstalled it. Sure enough, problem solved with that piece of software.
HOWEVER, I now get that same "the installation source..." note on some other
software that previously had been OK before. Normally I wouldn't worry about
it since it's unlikely that I would need to remove or repair it. But some of
this "other software" that's now affected is Microsoft Office 2000 & I can't
download any updates unless I resolve this problem. An obvious solution is
to remove & reinstall Office using Windows Installer Cleanup but that
"unfixes" the fix I just made with that first piece of software!
From a Google search, it appears I may be seeing version conflicts between
installers.
Has anyone experienced this that might suggest a solution? I've seen nothing
on the vendor sites of any of the affected software that addresses this.
Thanks!.......Lee
