When I try to install anything on my Windows XP Home, Microsoft Installer
comes up .. then it brings up Microsoft Word 2002 and says:

"The feature you re trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removeable disk
that is not available".

"Insert the 'Microsoft Woord 2002' disk and click OK"

Use Source: Microsoft Works Suite 2002 Disk 1

Then it says, "Installing Microsoft Word Feature"

and then it opens up Microsoft Word.

This is when I try to install ANYTHING ... Anyone know how I can correct
this? Thanks in advance
Michael

Ramesh,
Thank you, but I'm afraid your articles require a little more expertise
than I have. Where do I find the "event
log for MsiInstaller log messages" and then do I use the cleanup utility to
delete whatever is listed under the last line of the log? Thanks ....
Michael

Michael,

See Windows Installer FAQ:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/community/centers/management/msi_faq.mspx

Under "Troubleshooting" section, see:

" Q.Every time I launch my application, Windows Installer performs an
installation. How can I determine the cause of the on-demand installation?
"

-and-

Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility:

Michael,

Use the MSI Cleanup utility to remove Word / Office, and reinstall from CD.

Thanks again Ramesh, but that didn't help at all. I did exactly what you
said and it was harder than hell to get
Word 2002 to work again .. I kept getting message saying "Please close
Microsoft Task Manager before proceeding" and it WAS closed. I finally got
Word 2002 re-installed. And when I attempted to open a word document, i got
the exact same installer problem requiring me to re-insert MS Word Disk 1 so
it could install Word Features as it does everytime.

I'll live with it ... but thanks for trying! Michael

Michael,

Use the MSI Cleanup utility to remove Word / Office, and reinstall from CD.
