Document Viewer Installing and Microsoft .NET Framework Exception

Melanie

I was trying to make my computer run faster so I went to "Add or Remove
Programs" and removed a bunch of programs I thought I didn't need. But upon
restart, I ran into some problems.

Now, whenever I load my computer, it attempts to install something called
"DocumentViewer." A window pops up that says "The feature you are trying to
use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the
'DocumentViewer disk and click OK." If I hit cancel, then a Microsoft .NET
Framework window pops up and says, "An unhandled exception has occurred in a
component in your application. Click continue and application will ignore
this error and attempt to continue. Object reference not set to an instance
of an object." But if I hit continue the window just pops up again.

Does anyone know how I can solve this issue?

Two points:

1. Uninstalling programs will not make your computer run faster. What
you have *running* affects your speed, but not what you have installed
and not running.

2. Exactly what did you uninstall? In the future, be very careful what
you uninstall, and don't uninstall anything unless you know what it is
and you are sure you don't need or want it.

To "JS",
It sounds like the XPS Document Viewer that came with .NET Framework 3.0
service pack 2 got zapped and maybe left some registry entries behind. Do
you know of any other DocumentViewer associated with .NET?

To "Melanie",
If you don't have .NET Framework 3.0, you can download the XPS
Essentials Pack, which is a standalone version of the XPS Viewer, by
going to the View and Generate XPS page on the Microsoft website. This
version of the viewer is compatible with Windows Vista, Windows XP, and
Windows Server 2003. You can view, copy, or print XPS documents in the
XPS Essentials Pack, but you cannot digitally sign or set permissions
for a document.

You may have software on your computer that is dependent on one or more of
the versions of .NET Framework, so you may need to re-download and install
them. You should be able to go to the Windows Update site, Custom, and View
your updates history to see what you previously had.
