Windows Installer nightmare

When I reboot my computer Windows Installer tries to install PhotoGallery,
gets so far and asks for a disc I don't have.(I've since found out this is an
HP scanner program which I don't have anymore) Anyway I've tried fixing the
Windows Installer several ways including Installer cleanup. I can't finish
the download because "Error 1500. Another installation is in progress. You
must complete that installation before continuing this one." I feel like I'm
going in circles. Along with all this Installer trouble I get error messages
in .NET Framework. Are both of these problems related??? Is it possible to
uninstall Windows Installer and start again? Thanks for any help.

Thank you for your reply. I've tried several on that list and none of them
will work because Windows Installer is hung up trying to install the bogus
program "Photo Gallery" Short of blowing this thing up, do you have any
other suggestions?
