Windows Installer "internal error"

I'm trying the default install of vmware on XP and I'm getting
"Internal Error 2235 LockObject". I tried installing the latest
version of Installer (Alice in Wonderland?) but it said I already have
the latest version, so that's not it. I really am not familiar with
Installer problems.... before this problem, I didn't even know there
was an "installer database". What do I do?

Any advise given is my attempt to show appreciation for all
the excellent help I've received here but I'm no MVP so it
may only apply NUGS (Normally, Usually, Generally, Sometimes :)
