Try to use msconfig to shut down any unnecessary
services. Restart windows, and then try installing NSW 2006.
The getting started book states that the programs may not
install or update properly if any services are running.

I had a problem installing this same program. I had to run MSCONFIG and
un-check all items in the Startup tap. Rebooted the PC and it installed just
fine. Ran MSCONFIG again and rechecked all boxes and restarted PC.

NSW has been running just fine.

Use services.msc *NOT* msconfig.exe!

Start | Run | Type: services.msc | Click OK
---

Why can't I use msconfig to change my services?

[[The reason is because with msconfig and Hardware Profiles, you can disable
services that may be vital to boot your system. With the management console
(services.msc) you cannot. Also, msconfig, while unchecking the box, is
disabling the service.

The "Disable All" button also scares me. It should not even be there as no
reason exists to justify disabling "everything."]]

Using MSCONFIG and Startup Tab is safe to disable all. Disabling services
can prevent your system from booting and/or operating property if it does
boot.

Disabling one service can disable others you didn't intend to.

In Romans 1 there are qualities of Unregenerate man listed
which describe him in the last days.
Is your quality found on this list??

If you disable all the services under the Services tab in the System
Configuration Utility (msconfig.exe) it is possible that your machine will
not even boot. Unchecking any service under the Services tab is the same
thing as disabling that service.

If this message is meant for me, yes disabling all SERVICES could/will stop
your PC from booting.

My message pointed the user to the STARTUP tap after running MSCONFIG. I
said nothing about services.
