Windows Installer Continues to Run

I just had to do a system restore and every since the windows installer comes
up on everything I open. Is there any way to fix this? I looked through the
different conversations here and some have suggested the Windows Installer
Cleanup Utility but I am worried about using it. It gives a warning and some
here have said it's not a good idea. I have Windows XP Media Center Edition
Version 2002 Service Pack 2. I also have Microsoft 2003 installed and have
installed 2007. Can someone please advise me on the best way to resolve
this? I would truly appreciate it. Thanks.

Installer cleanup utility is an outdated service,it was created in 2003 w/o
ever being updated...Try opening event viewer to get more details,and/or
try reinstalling installer...
