Windows installer and Installshield don't work

Hi all,
since a month about I can't install some packages on my winXP home
system. In other cases the installation progress is terribly slow. I
know the current installer

is the 3.1 release (KB893803 automatic upgrade). I've crossed some
newsgroups but no answer fits my case. You have to know I'm new to XP
(I usually use Win

2000). This XP is bundled with my new system, so I think I can't
reinstall it. Also other my friends have a problem with the
installshield.
I'd like any help about the installer fit and /or reinstall of it.

Try ths: restart in safe mode (when BIOS screen turns black hit F8 and
choose that options). There, go to start run and type in these lines and
hit Enter key after each one:

msiexec /unreg
msiexec /regserver

Restart normally.
