Thanks, Pat. Installed fine on XP-SP2, system restore checkpoint was
included as part of the installation tool, re-boot was necessary.
msi.dll is now at version 4.5.6001.22159

Installed, on Vista Ultimate SP1. Unfortunately, a reboot is required. See
you on the other side...

I think the average user does not *need* to install it. However, sooner
or later new applications will make use of the new installer features,
and Microsoft will eventually push it through AutoUpdate or other means.

As mentioned in earlier posts, a reboot is required after the install.

I have tested a few MSI installations using the new installer; all went
fine.

Thank you for reminding me Dave. Forgot to do that but a system restore was
done anyway on my system also - cardinal sin particularly as MS tell you to
do it as always;) While checking I noticed that restore points were
automatically made for both uninstall/installation of my recent
SuperAntispyware upgrade. On that occasion I used Revo uninstall for that.
Question is. I`m wondering what is creating the restore points? The third
party application or the installer itself? OR neither. Didn`t notice any
flags from WD.

It is quite common for many modern programs to "request" the creation of a
SRP upon installation [and uninstall as well]

If you set a Vista disk in the CD tray upside down,
you can hear SATANIC VOICES!
But that isn't the worst of it,
if you set it the right way IT INSTALLS VISTA!

So it seems. That is well written progs - there are still many bad out there.
I have often found they don`t always perform in the uninstall dept very well
or care much for the rubbish they leave behind. I feel like the developers
are sometimes too intent on providing a very good gateway to get the product
on your system but not COMPLETELY off it if you don`t like ;) SRPs doesn`t
always work for me. Computer chugs away for ages before telling me it
couldn`t restore to an earlier time. Only way I feel confident in getting my
system back is by way of a `Backup`.
