Windows Image Acquisition hangs up - "starting"

For no discernible reason, Windows Explorer started taking forever to
locate things in "My Computer". Research led me to look at Windows
Image Acquisition, where I found the service to be "starting" but
never would make it to "started".

Disabling WIA fixed the Windows Explorer problem, but now I can't use
my scanner nor download from my camera.

Any guidance in resolving this... getting WIA to work properly
again... is greatly appreciated.

It's a Dell XPS 600 with XP Media Center 2005 Rollup 2. No viruses or
spyware according to Mr. Norton. All Windows Updates have been
applied.

Mark,

Thanks for the link to Ramesh page, I've gotten some useful tips
there. My current problem, however, is not with the context menu, but
with getting WIA to start. It attempts to start ("starting" status)
but never makes it to "started" status. That causes a major slowdown
in Windows Explorer when looking for "My Computer".

Thanks

Probably the Image Acquisition is trying to load a device, like a scanner, or
camera, and the driver is corrupt. Go to start/run, and type: devmgmt.msc.
Device Manager may show a problem, and even if not, removing, and refreshing
the drivers may solve the Image software problem.

Mark,

I uninstalled adn reinstalled the printer and scanner drivers
associated with my Xerox C2424 and voila, it's all good now. Thank
you.
