Windows Help and Support program

Hello all,
I continually get page cannot be displayed when I try to use the help and
support or its related topics, and the help menu topics in many of my
programs. I have no idea what is causing this. I run 5 anti spyware programs
on reg basis, no problems found. I have free McAfee with auto update. This is
the same page cannot be displayed, for cannot find server or DNS error,
Internet Explorer? I am soooo confused.

Hi Bert,
Thanks for the quick response, but this is not the case for my computer.
Value is already set at 0 in both. I was really unaware that the help and
support feature was internet based, learn something new everyday. I get this
error page on occasion in IE, but it seem more like a busy signal, because it
goes thru on retry and only happens occassionally. I'm going to check out the
security settings. I haven't done this with the last 3 updates. Maybe a
script problem? Hope to hear something new, very frustrating when you can't
even use the help feature for a program.

Sense that did not work, I would suggest going to number 9 and reinstall
Help and Support Center.

Hi Bert,
I have copied those instructions will give it a try and post back. I tried a
repair thru add and remove but that didn't change anything.

Hello Bert,
I tried #9 but when I typed, cd /d %windir%\pchealth\helpctr, got a popup
saying windows cannot find "cd". So that puts a halt on that fix unless you
know something I don't.

PattiR,

Copy these lines to a Notepad, and save the file as helpfix.bat

net stop helpsvc
cd /d %windir%\pchealth\helpctr
rd packagestore /s /q
rd installedskus /s /q
cd binaries
start /w helpsvc /svchost netsvcs /regserver /install
start /w helpsvc /register

Then double-click helpfix.bat file to run it.

Hi Ramesh,
I have never done this before. Does it matter where I save the file to?

forgot to add. When I tried this from the CMD, after the last line and enter
I ended up with another Binaries> line, like it was waiting for something
more. So now my Help and Support services are stopped successfully, but I
have this at the end, C:\WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\Binaries>.
