Windows hangs up on XP logo screen

Hello,

following problem occurs at my laptop:

When I try normal boot, windows hangs up on XP logo screen. The hdd
indicator tells me there is no more hdd access.
When using save mode, windows starts until black screen with note "save
mode" in the edges appears, then hangs up, also no more hdd access.

Booting with options "last known working config" and other options does
not work, too. (always the same result - hang up with no more hdd
action).

In my last working session i did not change any config, installed
programs or so. Just using office package, acrobat, photoshop, icq and
skype.
Shutdown without any problems.

Any suggestions how to boot the system and solve the problem?

Thanks for your help!

Just for the record, it's SAFE mode, not save mode..with that said, try
booting from your cd, then, if you get in, run all your virus, etc.
programs.

Of course you are right, it's safe mode.

As my install cd is not avaliable (i do an intership in china at the moment
and my cd ist at home in germany): I will try booting by using an emergency
cd made from another pc using also win xp.

I can exclude any viruses, worms, trojans, ... as i use up-to-date virus
scanner and firewall.

I think a boot file is currupt, is there a way to check and repair this?

Okay, just to be clear, when you say Windows 'hangs up' on the xp logo..
what do you mean? The window hangs, or 'freezes', or do you mean that the
computer shuts down and restarts automatically?
Try using the emergency boot disk to get you started, it should have a
Boot.ini file on it that if yours is corrupt, you should be able to copy.
And, for the record, lots of people still manage to get infected with
unwanted viruses, malicious scripts, etc, even with multiple programs to
prevent it..sad, but true.

"hangs up" means just doing nothing except booting normal until showing the
logo screen with this blue animation running and running and running ...
(blue as it ist win xp pro).
No restart, no further action, no hdd access like normal booting.

well, it could be that your cpu is dusty, thus causing over heating, and
over heating can prevent a computer form booting normally.
However, try booting with the borrowed emergency boot disk.

I found a solution for my problem, and problem is very different from the
things i thought about first.

Problem was a wrong time setting in bios. For reasons i do not know my bios
time setting changed over night and this led to my problem. Sollution was
entering BIOS, checking time (not changing to right value), and exiting
bios with saving.
Windows starts now regulary.
