Windows General Advantage Notification -- on 5/3/06 is according to the
Microsoft Authorization Message -- " Pre-Release" software ( Beta).
Why does Microsoft contiue to say I need to download and install this?
I have no problem with what the software is designed to do.
I just make it a policy not to install Beta software.

So how will Microsoft notify me when it is Fully Released Software?

It only D/L's when you have automatic updates turned on, if you have auto
updates turned off and go to WUP yourself and check for updates it is listed
as an optional update. As far as why it is beta? this is only my opinion but
I feel that MS is testing the waters for consumer reactions and to see if
they are +/- . I for one do not need or want yet another service running
that does me no good, also the better third party security programs always
come out with updates for a problem long before MS issues a hotfix for it,
after a negitive experiance of an office security update back in Feb. and
the bullsh_t related to the 4-11-2006 updates I plan to no longer go to WUP
when this becomes mandatory. But thats just me.

I can hear people screaming now "but you need these hotfixes, bla, bla, bla"
Well most people I know have minimal security on their systems and are still
running XP with no service packs installed, (far less security than I have)
and they have no problems.
YMMV

Oh,
You'll know! I had the"misfortune" of dowloading "Genuine Advantage
Notification". The specific update is KB905474 is the one I recieved- This
program is going to give MS lots of headaches.
