Windows Firewall

I hope someone can help me here, I'm trying to turn off the Firewall in XP
service pack 2,(we have our own Checkpoint one).

OK so I think I'll just turn it off, that'll do it. Restart the PC and the
things back on, repeat the operation, back on.

So I created a custom 'netfw'.inf file to turn off the firewall, used the
command 'netsh firewall reset' to implement the settings, and it works
everything is turned off.
Now when I reboot the PC the settings are back to the defaults again ie,
firewall is on, block exceptions etc.

Strange I think, I know I'll do it through Group Policy (Win2k), so I set
the policy settings to disable the firewall (both domain and standard
profile), restart the PC to apply the policy, it's still set to the default(
on etc).

ArrrrrrGGGHHHH

What is happening here? Can you actuall turn this thing off for good?

Please help

You can stop the Windows Firewall service by running services.msc and
scrolling down to Windows Firewall. Stop the service and disable it.

Thanx Malke, one snag I've got to do this for a domain and remote laptop
users, so I need to be able to deploy this without going to every PC.

I'm sure you can make this a Group Policy, but since I'm not a domain
guru, I'll bow out. I'm sure one of those experts will be along shortly
and give you an idea of how to roll this out to all your machines.
