Windows Firewall

I have installed Service Pack 2 with Windows XP Home edition. Each time I
log off, or reboot, I have to reenable the firewall. What is the fix for
this so that I don't have to keep enabling the firewall each time?

If you have a recognized 3rd party firewall installed, this is normal. XP realizes that you already have one running. Other than that, click Start, Run and enter SERVICES.MSC Locate the Internet Connection Sharing/Internet Connection Firewall entry and double click it. Ensure that the service is set to Automatic.

You seem really calm about this rocmo99. Well I'm not, I'm angry!

I'm here because after having SP2 installed myself since it's release, I've
just noticed the same thing.
And I'm pissed right off!!
I was using Zone Alarm, on a system I use for everything. E-mail, P2P, web
browsing, etc. Bought the concept that the built in XP firewall would be
better because it protects right from boot, instead of having to wait till
the OS boots up. Plus now that it monitors out bound traffic it's as good as
any other firewall on the market.

I have two XP computers, connected to a NAT router, and then the internet.
The compromised system is in a DMZ. Well my other system where the XP
firewall is still working at boot up is not. So somehow the XP firewall has
been compromised. I don't know how, or by who. I've checked for
virus/trojan/spyware, and as far as I can see my system is clean. So it's
either a flaw in the firewall, or some one has figured out how to turn the
thing off from outside the system! Oh and I checked and it is set to
automatic in the services settings.

This is total bullsh#t, who knows how long my system has been compromised! I
have personal information on the compromised computer, banking etc. I guess
it serves me right for trusting Microsoft right?

You know I've been basically supporting and defending Microsoft with my
Linux friends. Telling them that Windows OSs are a large target so you have
to give them some slack, their trying to correct defects and that's the main
thing.

Now I'm not so sure, you'd never see a total failure of any other firewall
like Zone Alarm like this!
How many people with SP2 think that they're secure when in fact they're
totally vulnerable?

All I can say is someone at Microsoft better look into this pretty fast.
Me I think I might give Suse a try instead! :(

The XP firewall does not monitor outbound traffic!
