windows firewall vs Norton

I have Windows XP with SP 2 and Norton Internet Security 2005. I have
disabled NIS firewall and enabled Windows firewall because of connection
issues. The problem is that everytime I logoff for the night WF is on but
when I logon the next day it is off. I have seen tips to remove NIS firewall
completely. I don't know how to do this without removing all of NIS. I
don't want to remove the whole thing because I have paid for it through most
of next year. My question is do I really need to completely remove just the
NIS firewall and is this possible? Is there some other way to keep WF
enabled all the time with NIS firewall off or should I just disable WF and
use NIS firewall? I virus scan after each WF off episode and so far I have
not been infected during the brief time it is off. I have DSL so it is an
always on connection. I am pretty close to computer illiterate so please be
gentle with me.

If you go to Control Panel/add and remove programs and select
Norton/Symantec to uninstall it usually will give you an option to
reconfigure which then may allow you to uninstall the Norton Firewall. since
you have DSL I highly recommend that you get an "internet router" firewall
device from Best Buy, etc to connect to your DSL modem if you do not have
one already as it will make sure you have main firewall protection no matter
what. Often you can find these devices from Linksys, D-Link, or Netgear for
$19 or so after rebate and they come with pretty good instructions. ---
