Windows firewall problem....

When I try to check Windows firewall settings in control panel i get the
following message " Due to unidentified problem, Windows cannot display
Windows firewall settings".
This is a new problem for me.
Everything was working well and the only reason i looked at it is because my
second computer, networked to this one, would no longer connect to the
internet.
Something got corrupted but I have no idea what.

First, check if your Windows Firewall Service started or not.

- Start -- Run -- Services.msc
- Scroll towards bottom for the service and check to see if it started

See if this helps.

I wanted to weigh in because I am experiencing the problem.

Following Evolution's suggestion, I find that there isn't a listing for the
Firewall Service, though there is a listing for the Securty Center. Two
different things??

I searched some previous posts here for a possible answer and found an
exchange where a person suggested re-installing SP2 as a way to resolve the
problem. What wasn't clear to the person that posted the problem, and never
seemed to be spelled out, was whether you had to remove SP2 through the
Control Panel add/remove software tab first to do this, or whether it could
be accomplished in another way.

Before I head off in this direction, I wanted a few more "compasses" to
reassure me that doing so wouldn't cause more problems than I could imagine.

Any suggestions?

I am truly sorry. You are correct, it should be Security Center. Check to
see if it is started/enabled. If not, Start it.

So I was correct in the first post as saying Windows Firewall (although I
failed to mention /Internet Connection Sharing)?

OK Thanks for the replies and the problem was solved following the
instructions on Ramesh's site. It was either a corrupt or missing
SharedAccess reg key.

Ramesh's registry patch did the job.

Thanks to all that responded.

Glad the sharedaccess.reg file fixed the problem, Charles.
