Windows Firewall not responding

S

Scott Micale

I am trying to go in a edit the windows firewall, but when I go to control
panel and click Windows Firewall I get this message, "Windows Firewall - Due
to am unidentified problem, Windows cannot display Windows Firewall
settings." Any idea how to fix this. I can't find any other firewall on
the system so I don't think that is the cause.

Thanks!

Hello Scott,

From the post log, I understand that you receive the following error
message when you try to access Windows Firewall:

"Windows Firewall - Due to am unidentified problem, Windows cannot display
Windows Firewall settings."

If this is not correct, please feel free to let me know.

Based on my research, this issue may occur the SharedAccess.reg key is
missing or corrupt after you install Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2.
The SharedAccess.reg key represents the Windows Firewall service.

To narrow down this issue, I recommend you try the following methods:

Method 1: Add the Windows Firewall entry to the registry
============================================
Warning: Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry
incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These
problems might require that you reinstall Windows XP. Microsoft cannot
guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your
own risk.

To restore the Add the Firewall Services entry to the registry, follow
these steps:

1. Copy the following text to Notepad and save the file as
Sharedaccess.reg.
